Puppy/Kitten Care

Thank you for letting us be your partner in your new puppy or kitten’s health! Puppy and kitten wellness visits ensure you and your new pet get off to a healthy start in life!

Puppy/Kitten Preventative Care includes:

  • Full veterinary (nose-to-tail) physical examination

  • Vaccinations and deworming as needed

  • Discussion of proper nutrition

  • Vaccines help your pet live a longer, healthier and happier life!

  • Discussion of spay/neuter

  • Internal and external parasite checks

  • Heartworm prevention

  • Information and suggestions on basic training

  • Dental checkup and discussion of dental care for your pet

  • Microchipping recommendation

Our veterinarians should see your new puppy or kitten for the first time either at 8 weeks old or as soon as you get him or her. After the initial appointment, we will need to see your new puppy or kitten every month until he or she reaches 6 months of age. These appointments are very important to make sure that your new pet is growing as he or she should and that there are no problems with health, growth, or development.

During your kitten or puppy’s appointment we will get weight, temperature, heart rate, and respiratory rate. We will also check ears, eyes, nose, mouth (link to dental care), and general physical health.

Kittens should be checked for FeLV/FIV before being vaccinated against these diseases. Puppies and kittens often have worms in their digestive tracts. An intestinal parasite screening (fecal sample) will be taken to check for worms and medication will be given orally if any are present.

Finally, your new pet will get started on his or her course of vaccines. This is a great time to talk to your veterinarian about parasite prevention, diet, and any other questions you may have.

Senior Care

Since our pets age at a faster rate than humans, we recommend an exam every six months after your pet reaches age 7 in order to help them live a longer, healthier & happier life. Good senior pet health care requires attention to several factors:

  • Diet and weight management

  • Joint health

  • Early disease detection blood and urine tests

  • Dental maintenance

  • Diabetes screening

  • Function of thyroid, kidneys, and liver

  • Eye and vision health

  • Pain management discussion

Your senior pet should have Early Detection Testing performed every year to keep track of liver, kidney, and thyroid function. Annual lab work also provides a baseline for identifying any emerging problems quickly.
