We Care About Puppy and Kitten Care
You have brought a new member of the family home, now what? There are many things to think about and take care of at this exciting time. What will his or her name be? Do we have enough toys? Where will our new pet sleep? Do you have the right kind of food, and how much should be feeding them?
While you are considering the answers to these questions, do not forget to visit us!
We should see your new puppy or kitten for the first time either at 8 weeks old or as soon as you get him or her. After the initial visit we will need to see your new puppy or kitten every month until he or she reaches 6 months of age. These appointments are very important to make sure that your new pet is growing as he or she should and that there are no problems with health, growth, or development.
During your kitten or puppy’s appointment we will get weight, temperature, heart rate, and respiratory rate. We will also check ears, eyes, nose, mouth, and general physical health.
Kittens should be checked for FeLV/FIV before being vaccinated against these diseases. Puppies and kittens often have worms in their digestive tracts. A fecal sample will be taken to check for worms and medication will be given orally if any are present.
Finally, your new pet will get started on his or her course of vaccines. This is a great time to talk to your veterinarian about parasite prevention, diet, and any other questions you may have.
