Meet Our Staff
Dr. Jeff Falone, DVM
Dr. Jeff Falone became owner of Valleydale Animal Clinic in July 2009 after previously working as a practice owner and veterinarian in Pensacola, FL. He studied Animal Science at the University of Kentucky and graduated from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.
His professional interests include surgery, ultrasonography, endoscopy and management. Dr. Jeff desires the hospital to be a place that serves people as well as pets.
When not at the vet clinic, he enjoys spending time with his family, running and fishing. His wife Laura practices part-time at Valleydale Animal Clinic and they have two sons, Lane and Will, plus Wallace, a dog, Oreo, the guinea pig, and several fish to complete their family.
Dr. Alex Winke, DVM
Dr. Alex Winke joined Valleydale Animal Clinic in March 2015. He graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and enjoys working in the veterinary field. His professional interests include dentistry, surgery, and ultrasonography. Dr. Alex says, "Successful client education that leads to the betterment of their pet's wellbeing is the most satisfying part of my job."
When not at the vet clinic he enjoys spending time with his wife, Rachel and their two dogs: Colby, a Labrador Retriever and Sarah Beth, a miniature longhaired Dachshund. Dr. Alex also enjoys tennis, golf, snowboarding, and running.
Dr. Laura Falone, DVM
Dr. Laura Falone practices part-time at Valleydale Animal Clinic. She received her Bachelor of Science in Zoology and DVM from Auburn University. Her professional interests are primarily internal medicine and soft tissue surgery.
She is married to Dr. Jeff and they have two sons, Lane and Will, Wallace, a dog, Oreo, the guinea pig, and several fish complete their family. Dr. Laura enjoys volunteering at her church and her children's' schools in her time away from the vet clinic.
Dr. Laura volunteers as a therapy team for Hand in Paw with her dog Wallace, adopted from Adopt a Golden Birmingham.
Dr. Stephen LaRocca, DVM
Dr. Stephen LaRocca joined our Valleydale Animal Clinic family in 2017. Dr. LaRocca received his veterinary degree from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and has special interest in soft tissue surgery, internal medicine and emergency veterinary medicine. Outside the vet hospital, he enjoys spending time with his wife (who is also a veterinarian) and daughter, scuba diving and playing bass guitar. His pets include a medley of five rescue dogs and two rescue cats.
Staff Manager and Technician
Kym joined our team as a veterinary technician in 2012 and has been working in the field since 2006. She has worked in a wide variety of animal fields including assisting a behaviorist and managing the clinic at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Outside the vet hospital, she enjoys traveling, photograph and learning about any of the most recent science research there is out there. Her life would not be complete without her husband Justin and new daughter Lennox and their pack of mixed-breed dogs, Orson, Fugazi and Georgia.
Tara started working at with us as a technician in April 2010. She completed the Veterinary Technology program at Jefferson State Community College in 2008 but has worked in the field since 2004. Tara is our Hill's Certified Pet Nutrition Counselor. She also loves spending time with her husband, Brent, their daughter, Alyna, and their son, Samson. She says all of her dreams have come true since becoming a mother in June 2011.Tara's pets at home are Frank, a Bull Terrier and a Persian, Lenard.
Licensed Veterinary Technician
Staci started working with us as a veterinary assistant in 2015. She left a career in marketing and advertising as animals are her true passion. So much so, that she also enjoys painting and drawing people's pets! Staci earned her license in veterinary technology from Jefferson State Community College in 2017. Outside the vet hospital, she loves spending time with her husband Kenny and their son Ellis and dogs Turbo, Fenway and Phoenix, as well as their cats; Carrera, Symi, and Mr. Rhodes.
Emily joined our Valleydale Animal Clinic team as a Technician in 2016 after moving to Birmingham from San Diego. She has her Bachelor's in Environmental Studies from University of California, Santa Cruz, and hopes to attend veterinary school at Auburn then practice medicine abroad. She loves assisting with orthopedic surgeries and has a strong interest in feline medicine. When she is not studying or working, she has been exploring Birmingham to get to know her new home. She also loves traveling and spending time with her family and two cats, Pepper and Shadow.
Kennel Manager and Certified Dog Trainer
“Aunt Meg” has been working with us since 2009 and works hard to love on every pet staying with us and make them as comfortable as possible. She is also an expert at making the dogs that come in for their “spa day” beautiful and fluffed as if ready to go to a show. As an American Behavior College Certified Dog Trainer, Meg provides training private lessons and group classes to help your dogs become successful part of your family. Meg has previously bred Basset Hounds and showed many in competition. In her spare time, she loves cuddling with and providing foster care for dogs in need and donating resources to local shelters and rescues. She also enjoys grooming and vintage cars.
Jackie joined our kennel staff in 2011. She relocated to Birmingham from New Jersey shortly before and says she “was very lucky to get a job at Valleydale.” Jackie says she loves spending time with her four dogs; Fritz, Sadie, Mickey, and Piper; along with her two cats, Petie and Gracie. She also enjoys her phone conversations with her daughter who still lives in New Jersey.
Raven joined our Valleydale Animal Clinic family in 2016! Raven cares for your pets while they board with us and enjoys making them fall at home in our care.
Katy Maske joined the Valleydale Animal Clinic family as our groomer in 2016!
Ashley has been working for Valleydale Animal Clinic since 1999. She started as a receptionist and moved to the Office Manager position which allows her to work from home so she can spend time with her husband, Frank, and 3 children, Finley, Alicia and Foster. Ashley also enjoys getting involved in church activities, hiking, riding, and home improvement. Ashley’s pets include indoor and outdoor cats and three chickens. She completed her Bachelor's Degree at University of Montevallo in May 2010 with a major in History and a minor in Psychology, and is a Front Staff Trainer for Bayer.
